Cinema's in Kuwait K-Town "Let The Show Begin"

People,

Back again... Not trying to be negative just trying to be honest...
The cinema...
Kuwait is a quick developing country at a quick pace.
There is a lot of touristic attractions to people who admire the desert,
We don't enjoy clubbing and drinks in Kuwait but we do enjoy the night life.
There is a lot to do in Kuwait, besides work or school.
Night life is a tradition to most teenagers, Shopping mall's, Fancy Restaurants, Brand name shopping, Cinema's and much much more.

When you decide to go to a movie in Kuwait there is one advantage better than cinema's in the United States of America.
In Kuwait's Cinemas you get to select your seat upon purchase of your ticket that means even if you go in late you can sit in the seat you pre selected.
In The United States, you have to go early to select your seat if you go in late 5 min after the movie started you most probably well get the worst seat ever.

Kuwait has a high end quality in Cinema's. The newly built cinemas are being well designed with V.I.P Booth's and private screenings.

Cinescape also known as KNCC, Kuwait National Cinema Company is the only Cinema Company in Kuwait.
Kuwait is a small country usually smaller than most States in the United states of America.
The Kuwaiti market is to small for other Cinema Companies to open and another reason is that Cinescape has theaters in almost every Shopping Mall in Kuwait as well as Theme parks and many more various places, I am surprised that they haven't opened a theatre in the Airport.

Another reason that another cinema company is not opening in Kuwait is because, the current owners of Cinescape have good connections and are not allowing others to open cinema companies and license them.
So i say its fare as the market is small and its not fare as they have the power to control the market.

Yes, Cinescape are indeed making good progress as well as a hell lot of money but the issue is have you been to a cinema theatre in Kuwait to watch a Movie?
If yes, Then you know that if there is a Kiss or a adult scene it has been removed from the movie.
How is it removed you may laugh but its true i have been up in the screening room and i have seen the way they cut the scene.
Movies in cinemas are obviously not on DVD and they are hard to edit, so the process is quite crazy and funny as well.
They watch the movie and see witch scenes should be cut, they then write the time of frame shown on a time frame screen.
Movies in the cinema are on a 4K film strip, they fast forward the movie to the section the want to cut, they then bend the film from the begging of the section until the end of the section they want to cut, usually called (Key frame) they do it the old fashion way either with a piece of scissors or a blade they cut the frames out.
If Not using the old tools there is a device usually referred to as the Cutting device.
It usually looks like a cutting board that you use to cut pieces of paper, usually a big board and a blade attached to the end of it.

A film strip is usually similar to a old fashion still camera film each image is on a single frame and hundreds of images are for each second of the movie, so they usually cut out hundreds of frames to remove the scene they want.
Now how do they glue back the film together ?
They use Nail polish !! Yes the same nail polish that women use to color there finger nails.
They put a little nail polish on each side of the film and they attached them together, wait until they dry and they are done they have removed the scene.

When i go to the Cinema to watch a movie do i pay my money to expect a scene to be removed ?
i usually don't like to watch much movies in the Cinema's of Kuwait.
In this small scene that they cut there is thousands of things i can loose, like for example if its a thriller and the killer is confessing to someone that he killed, which might be one of the most important scenes of the movie, and in this scene the killer might be kissing someone.
To bad you wont able to see it there was an innocent kiss and it has been cut out, you usually leave the movie not understanding why the killer has killed. Cheers smile you just watched a movie in a Kuwaiti Cinema.

Now there is another issue.
To me i don't mind it but some bloggers and some people i know have brought up this subject and asked me to comment about it, I will.

Cinema's in Kuwait are a bit different as i mentioned before, The bachelors sit alone in the front and then there is the family section which is above the Bachelors.
Now i think this is not a big problem its much better and safer for stalkers or who ever i mean you wouldn't like to be with your family in the cinema and a guy sits next to you doing weird stuff in the dark, cause i sure wouldn't like it.

But i still consider it unfair for bachelors to sit in the front which means that they get the worst seat, its like torturing them for being a bachelor.
If you think it's that bad then separate the Theatre in half on the left side bachelors and the right side families instead of making it Bachelors in the front and families at the back.

Some cinemas in kuwait not all but some a very few have made this change and made bachelors  sit on the right side and the families on the left side, but again thats a few not all so why not all the cinemas to be changed in this manner.

The other main issue is that the prices of the ticket's went up !!!!
WHY ????
no one has the answer, the prices went up just because they said so.

When the first cinema opened in Kuwait it opened in 1954 with a capital of 7 million Rupees (the old currency of Kuwait). Current currency Kuwait Dinar, KD.

The prices of the tickets at those times started at 500 Fils. which is equivalant to USD $1, 50 Cents.
Then the price went up in 1995 when the Cinema expanded and there was 11 theaters in total through out Kuwait. The price went up to 2KD 500 Fils.

Now the price is 3 KD almost USD$ 11.

Except Monday's the price goes down to 1 KD 500 fils. again Why Not !!

Why ? No one knows probably the reason is because of the prices inflation in Kuwait. All the prices went up so the Cinema executives decided to inflate the prices as well.
And again why not, Smile your watching a movie in a Kuwaiti Cinema, half the scenes are cut and bachelors are sitting at the worst seats and paying 3 KD.

The last subject about the cinema i am going to talk about today is the Spokesman or in other words, the front cover representative.
With out mentioning any names, I am going to mention a little story that actually happened not a very long time ago.

This person was the head of the cinema as CEO as some relative of his owned KNCC Kuwait national cinema company.
The company was then sold to new owners and new share holders and board directors. The company was re named from KNCC to Cinescape.
This CEO was fired from the new management, he did not accept the idea of him being fired for his reputation and for many other reasons mainly to stay in the spot light that he owned the cinema.
He had no idea that KNCC will be sold to a new management by his relatives. He walked in to his office at KNCC and saw a Thank you letter with a Termination letter to go with it.
He left the office booming to his relative who sold the Cinema.

A huge argument took place, after that the old owners and Board members of the old company KNCC called up the new members and added a new agreement to the contract that this old CEO will remain at the company.

The new management didn't mind it but they did make a little change. From CEO of KNCC to Cinescape's Front image Representative.

I hope he is enjoying his new position.
The only problem with this subject is that he has no knowledge of the Cinema business and he is one of the people to decide which scenes should be removed with a team of 12 who none what so ever understand anything about the film and cinema industry.

So you might as well watch the movie in a cinema outside of Kuwait.

Enjoy it and remember popcorn and pepsi are the best diet when watching a movie in the Cinema :)

Cheers,

Long Live Kuwait, The Ameer, and The People of Kuwait with our Flag raised high above our heads.
